Cubs make several roster moves with pitching staff

TORONTO – The Chicago Cubs today placed right-handed pitcher Adrian Sampson and left-handed pitcher Justin Steele on the restricted list. Left-handed pitcher Brendon Little has been added as a substitute player to the active roster.

Little (uniform number 57) will look to make his major league debut during tonight’s 6:07pm CT game against the Toronto Blue Jays at Rogers Centre.

Little, 26, is 3-3 with a 4.15 ERA (18 ER/39.0 IP) and one save in 29 games in relief for Iowa this season. The left-handed pitcher has posted a 1.06 ERA (2 ER/17.0 IP) in his last 13 appearances since July 1, has held right-handed hitters to a .225 average (20-for-89) and has gone at least 2.0 innings in seven outings during the 2022 campaign.

Little, the Cubs’ first-round selection (27th overall) in the 2017 draft, is 10-19 with a 4.61 ERA (130 ER/253.2 IP) and four saves in 95 career minor league games (39 starts). The six-foot, two-inch, 195-pound Little attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota after graduating from Conestoga High School in Berwyn, Pa.

Sampson, 30, is 1-4 with a 3.97 ERA (29 ER/65.2 IP) in 14 games (12 starts) for the Cubs this season.

Steele, 27, is 8-11 with a 3.18 ERA (42 ER/119.0 IP) in 24 starts for Chicago in 2022. He has posted a 0.98 ERA (4 ER/36.2 IP) in seven starts since July 22, the second-lowest ERA in the majors during that span (min. 7 GS).
