WATCH: Highlights from Alec Mills' no-hitter, Cubs' 12-0 victory

by - Senior Writer -

MILWAUKEE — For the first time since 2016 and the 16th time overall, a Chicago Cubs (28-20) pitcher threw a no-hitter on Sunday, as Alec Mills breezed through the batting order of the Milwaukee Brewers (20-24) in a 12-0 shutout. The Cubs plated five runs in the fourth inning and four runs in the fifth inning at Miller Park and went on to win 12-0 in the final meeting of the regular season between the two rivals.

Mills walked three and struck out five in the best start of his career. Jake Arrieta was the last Cubs pitcher to toss a no-no, doing so in 2016, and Carlos Zambrano is the only other Cubs pitcher to have thrown a no-hitter at Miller Park, which he did in 2008. Shoddy defense, including three errors, hindered the Brewers' chances and helped the Cubs' offense. Victor Caratini tallied three RBIs on a 2-for-4 day at the plate, and David Bote hit a two-run homer.
