Kris Bryant on possible contract extension with Cubs

The offseason rumor mill is over with the start of training camp.

Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant was right in the middle of all the rumors regarding a trade but nothing came of it as he is still on the North Side.

Bryant talked to the media Thursday and said that he was certainly open to a contract extension with the Cubs.

“I can kind of sound like a broken record," he said. "I’ve always said I’ve been open and willing to hear whatever (Cubs have) to say and would take it with open arms and consider everything that is thrown my way. I’ve communicated that well with them.”

However, Bryant doesn't want to put too much pressure on himself on this important year before free agency.

“I’m proud to say that I haven’t changed much over the years that I’ve been in the big leagues," he said. "Honestly, my whole life, this has been who I am. I don’t want to put too much on myself, any more pressure. Every year I want to go out there and dominate. That’s who I’ve always been and that’s what drives me.”

For his career, Bryant is a .280 hitter with 142 homers and 414 RBIs.

Cubs general manager Jed Hoyer is reportedly planning on sitting down this spring with several of the Cubs stars to talk about extensions including Bryant, Anthony Rizzo, and Javy Baez.
